CHANGING careers, schools and moving to a new area all in one go is not for everyone, but it is what Craig and Jazz McKenna are doing.

The Casino couple have recently taken over the Evans Head Newsagency after the business was liquidated and closed suddenly.

“I was working for Centrelink and Craig was at the (Casino) Meatworks when this opportunity came up,” Jazz said.

“It’s all a bit daunting as it was a quick decision.”

While the terms and conditions for taking over the business are confidential, the McKennas did say they had to start everything from scratch.

“We’ve had to apply for the papers, the magazines and the Lotto business,” Craig said.

“We have the home deliveries back with all the papers, but at one point we were buying up papers in Casino and magazines in Ballina for what we sell, just so that people could get their news.”

The young couple have two children who they are enrolling at a local school, and will soon be on the hunt for a place to live in Evans Head.

“We have often come to Evans Head for our holidays and to visit my parents,” Jazz said.

“This is our first time together running our own business.”
