BEEF Meets Reef will be back again this year, and the organising committee is hoping for even more community participation.

The event began in 2011 as Evans Head’s contribution to the Richmond Valley’s major festival, Casino’s Beef Week, and has experienced continued growth each year.

Beef Meets Reef will be held on Sunday, May 25, with all the usual attractions such as the tug-of-war, markets, music, a grammar pie competition, camel rides and the parade of floats.

But more will be added, and that’s where the community can be involved.

“We’re looking at having an open mic session where young and old can play – a forum to showcase the talent you’ve got,” one organiser, Margaret Stewart, said.

“We’d like community groups to put a float in the parade – it would be a good forum for them to say ‘this is what we do’ and perhaps they could attract new members.”

Children’s choirs and dance groups, seniors groups, community groups – all are invited to talk to organisers about having some sort of participation in Beef Meets Reef.

Ms Stewart said, as with all such events, Beef Meets Reef did not “run itself” and volunteers were more than welcome to help out in the lead-up and on the day.

“Individuals or groups are invited – there are plenty of jobs to be done if you want to put your hand up,” she said.

If you have a suggested attraction or event you would like to see at Beef Meets Reef, or if you can assist the organisers, Beef Meets Reef has a Facebook page, or you can contact Ms Stewart on 0401 273 910 or another organiser, Brian O’Farrell, at LJ Hooker Real Estate in Evans Head.
