The Evans Head Memorial Aerodrome Heritage Aviation Museum’s latest aircraft acquisition was moved into her new home.

In a delicate operation RAAF Canberra A84-203 was slowly rolled into the Museum hangar at the local airport out of the driving rain by volunteers.

The team of dedicated volunteers will now fit the Canberra’s original jet engines and fairings and cockpit instruments.

She now takes pride of place next to the Museum’s RAAF F-111 jet, which replaced the Canberra fleet in the 1970s and 1980s.

The Evans Head Aviation group has also announced that it will be hosting the annual Australian Aviation Museum Association conference at Evans Head later this year.

The organisation today also announced that it has been gifted a former RAAF Caribou transport aircraft A4-299 which will be arriving at Evans Head by June this year. Final negotiations are currently underway over its delivery with the Defence Department.

The Evans Head Aviation Museum is open on Saturdays and Sundays between 10am and 4pm, and special tours can be arranged by appointment by calling 0411378998.
