EVANS Head Little Athletics held an end-of-season presentation at the Evans Head Surf Club, with a disco and games for the kids, a barbecue dinner shared with parents and athletes, and ended the night with presentations.
The club had a successful season, with 37 members aged between five and 15 years old participating.
There was good attendance at weekly club afternoons, and 10 athletes competed at Zone Championships and eight athletes competed at Regional Championships.
And for the first time three athletes – Natasha Wotherspoon and Kate and Eliza Blunn – represented Evans Head Little Athletics at the State Championships held at Olympic Park in Sydney.
Natasha competed in the Under-12 girls’ shot put and javelin, Kate Blunn competed Under-15 girls’ discus, and Eliza Blunn competed in Under-9 girls’ shot put. Although the girls did not place, they performed well and enjoyed the experience of competing at Olympic Park.
“Our athletes should be very proud of themselves as each week they tried their best and had a go,” a club spokeswoman said.
“The help and support from our parents, both in making it possible for their children to participate, and in participating themselves in assisting with running groups, was a big part of the club having a great year.”
Sign-on for next season will be in September.
