BEEF Meets Reef gets bigger each year, and all that is needed to continue that growth is fine weather for this Sunday’s annual event.
Organising committee member Brian O’Farrell said the May 25 event was “shaping up well, and all we need is fine weather”.
All the favourites
“There is a larger amount of stalls booked for this year, and the tug-o-war gets bigger each year,” he said.
“We have just got the camels back again, and this is a big drawcard, not only the rides but in the parade.
“This will be a great day with lot of fun for all the family.”
The activities begin at 10am and continue throughout the day.
There will be street stalls, music, entertainment for the kids, a street parade and novelty competitions such as the apple and gramma pie baking competitions.
The tug-o-war competition, which is always popular, will be even more so this year, with teams which compete nationally attending.
Teams from the Brisbane Bulldogs, Maitland and Glen Innes will take on the locals in the tug-o-war for $2000 in prize money.
The visiting teams will be using the event as a trial run, with the possibility of the national championships being held in to coincide with Beefs Meets Reef in 2015.
Shop front displays and pie competition
The businesses of Evans Head support Beef meets Reef, doing up their shop front windows and showcasing their products and services using this year’s theme, Heroes and Villains.
This year the gramma and apple pie competition offers up to $250 in prize money, sponsored by SPAR supermarket at Evans Head.
Registration is $5 each entry.
Registration forms for the tug-o-war and pie baking competition can be collected from SPAR and L J Hooker and need to be submitted on the day.
Beef Meets Reef was established to involve Evans Head in Casino’s annual Beef Week.
